I think you have that exactly backwards.

The Hydrox is almost as bad as the cookie made in Canada by the company who merely licenses the Oreo name and cranks out a confection that somehow is fine-tuned to the Canadian palate. Ghastly!

That generic store brand rocks too. The Duplex is especially good. Elfwich's weren't bad either.

I agree with Brian, though, the Hydrox cookies I remember (growing up in S.C.) were awful.

Y'all are lucky - I got "creme filled chocolate sandwich cookies". Hydrox always seemed more mysterious to me when I was a kid, like cookies robots would eat.

Cool thing about the Elfwich--they had the Keebler elf stamped into the cookie and if you floated it on top of your milk but swamped it just a little the milk filled in the crannies. Now that's good eating.

You should try the gluten-free dietetic faux Oreos sometime. A friend of mine gets them - they taste like two vaguely chocolate-flavored Eucharists with a brittle pad of white stuff between.
