“Tonight, more Americans are out of work and more are working harder for less. More of you have lost your homes and more are watching your home values plummet. More of you have cars you can’t afford to drive, credit card bills you can’t afford to pay and tuition that is beyond your reach “These challenges are not all of government’s making. But the failure to respond is a direct result of a broken politics in Washington and the failed presidency of George W. Bush

Right there illustrates perfectly everything that is wrong with the Democratic view of government. More Americans are out of work compared to when? Of course home values are plummeting, they were astronomical due to a speculative housing bubble that citizens were too easily caught up in. However, the government is not here to make sure idiots have enough cash to buy a house, and if they don't, give them a handout. If you have a card you can't afford to drive, you were stupid about the purchase and should sell it for a cheaper care (or even a bike). Same goes for credit card bills you can't afford. Regarding tuition, not everyone needs to go to college. Also, not everyone needs to go to an expensive college (i.e. private, ivy league, etc). Community college works just fine. "...the failure to response is a direct result...."

Obama, as a hard working middle class American, I respectfully ask that you spend your own damn money to help the 'victim class' and those unwilling to take responsibilities for poor decisions.

McCain is going to have to tell the people directly that the economy is OK - it is the media that is suffering (check out the NYT revenue figures for July). He will have to explain that the media is in free fall, and they want America to join them. And he will have to explain that the Democrats want the same thing, at least until Nov. 6.

He has to drive the truth on this one, because no one else will.

America, we cannot turn back. Not with so much work to be done. Not with so many children to educate, and so many veterans to care for. Not with an economy to fix and cities to rebuild and farms to save. Not with so many families to protect and so many lives to mend. America, we cannot turn back. We cannot walk alone. At this moment, in this election, we must pledge once more to march into the future. Let us keep that promise — that American promise — and in the words of Scripture hold firmly, without wavering, to the hope that we confess.

Yes, that "farms to save" is especially priceless. Farmers are the rich he hates so much.

Obama already spent 100 mil in Chicago to no avail, now he wants 100 tril federal dollars to toss down the same hole and all those screaming people are ready to give it to him. Amazing.

Things have definitely gotten worse, and survey says imo people are losing hope. You can't attribute it to a politician, economics is a natural cycle. You can raise awareness of the problems it causes however. Gang violence has become rampant, very obvious in areas like south LA. This is directly caused by financial distress, turning back will only make things worse.
