And I should probably mention that the author's praising Miles for finding paying gigs for this "rehearsal band" a bit overstated: the BIRTH OF THE COOL band only played the clubs a handful of times, and it was the recording sessions for Capitol (and the fact that Konitz, Mulligan, etc. would soon become famous) that made this group as important as it is.
